The Pitcher Plant (Nepenthes) is a tropical carnivorous plant native to parts of South East Asia, India, Madagascar, and Australia. These plants get the nutrients from digesting insects. The pitcher itself is a swelling of the mid-vein in the leaf that is filled with digestive fluid. The nectar the plant secretes lures insects into the pitcher and the slippery rim and inner walls of the pitcher help trap the insect which eventually falls into the digestive fluid.
