Monstera Deliciosa, also known as Swiss Cheese Plant or Split-leaf Philodendron is one of the most popular house plants due to its exotic appearance. As the Monstera Deliciosa matures, its leaves produce splits and holes (called fenestrations). The older it grows, the more fenestrations it produces!
Monstera Deliciosa flowers and produces fruit! The fruits look like green ears of corn and are covered in hexagonal scales which drop as the fruit ripens. The fruit is edible only when completely ripe (unripened fruit contains oxalic acid). As it ripens it releases a strong scent that is sweet like pineapple and banana. The taste of the fruit is like a combination of all delicious tropical fruits - pineapple, coconut, mango, lychee, passion fruit, banana, mangosteen, strawberry and guava, giving this plant the nickname "Fruit Salad Plant"!
